Description: Introduction to Experiential learning using virtual Labs

Experiential learning through virtual labs offers a dynamic approach to education, enabling students to actively engage in hands-on experiences within a virtual environment.

  1. What is Experiential Learning: Experiential learning is a philosophy of education that emphasizes learning through experience, reflection, and application. It’s based on the idea that individuals learn best by doing and actively engaging with concepts.
  2. Virtual Labs: Virtual labs are digital simulations that replicate the experience of traditional laboratory settings in an online environment. These labs allow students to conduct experiments, manipulate variables, and observe outcomes virtually.

Benefits:

  • Accessibility: Virtual labs eliminate the need for physical resources, making it easier for educational institutions to offer laboratory experiences to a larger number of students.
  • Safety: Virtual labs eliminate risks associated with handling hazardous materials or conducting experiments in a physical lab setting.

Applications:

  • STEM Education: Virtual labs are commonly used in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education to supplement traditional laboratory experiences.
  • Distance Learning: Virtual labs are particularly valuable for distance learning programs, where students may not have access to physical laboratories.

Resources Person Brief Profile

Currently she is working as senior research fellow from past 2 years. Her concentration is on V-Lab development outreach.

Time Table of the Event with timings:

The seminar was conducted on 06th Feb 2024, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm in 3rd floor seminar hall about Introduction to Experiential learning using virtual Labs.

Topics to be covered:

  1. How does this phenomenon occur in nature?
  2. What are the safety precautions to be taken?
  3. How could the experiment be improved or modified for better accuracy?
  4. How does the virtual experiment compare to a real-world laboratory experiment?
  5. What ethical issues, if any, arise from conducting this experiment?

Brief Report of the Seminar

The speaker gave an introduction about virtual Labs. The virtual lab is an initiative of ministry of education under the national mission on education through ICT. The speaker briefed out the different objectives of the virtual labs. The V lab provides remote access to simulation based labs in various discipline of science and technology. The speaker quoted that this lab helps the students in learning basic and advance concept through remote experimentation by availing various tools for learning including additional web resources, video lectures and animated demonstration. The speaker said that V lab is a platform which provides an opportunity to understand the theoretical concept in a very easy way with the help of simulator. They gave a demo to the students how to access virtual lab components. Students were benefited by this hands on session.
